SWEN PE Select Europa 7: Final Closing of our First Article 9 SFDR Multi-Strategy Fund
SWEN Capital Partners (“SWEN”), the sustainable investment manager, has announced the final close of SWEN PE Select Europa 7 at €236 million.
SWEN PE Select Europa 7 is the seventh vintage of SWEN’s European multi-strategy private equity programme, which has been investing directly and indirectly alongside European private equity managers since 2008. The fund is in line in size with its three predecessors, Europa 4, 5 and 6, which raised €261 million, €240 million and €255 million respectively.
At final close, 80% of Europa 7 was already committed to underlying investments, providing significant visibility over the portfolio while retaining capacity to capture further opportunities. SWEN expects to continue making commitments through the end of 2026 and the first half of 2027. Through its overcommitment mechanism, the fund can make commitments of up to 120%, giving Europa 7 capacity to make approximately €283 million of total investment commitments.
SWEN PE Select Europa 7 builds on SWEN’s multi-strategy approach to European private equity, combining primary fund commitments, secondary transactions and minority direct investments within a single portfolio. Its target allocation is approximately 50% to primary investments, 20% to secondaries and 30% to minority direct investments, giving investors diversified access to specialist managers and companies while allowing SWEN to manage manager selection, pacing and diversification across the portfolio.
The seventh vintage is the first fund in the Europa range to be classified Article 9 under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), making it one of very few European Article 9 fund-of-funds strategies dedicated to supporting SMEs and mid-sized companies. Its performance target is the same as previous vintages, demonstrating that sustainable finance and financial performance can go hand in hand.
The strategy focuses on three broad themes: decarbonisation and the energy transition, the circular economy, and social and healthcare. Primary and secondary investments are made through Article 9 funds, while Europa 7’s direct co-investment allocation is deployed through SWEN RISE, SWEN’s dedicated Article 9 SFDR co-investment strategy.
SWEN RISE has completed 11 transactions to date, including one exit, with €70 million invested. The strategy is targeting a portfolio of 15 to 20 investments, focused primarily on buyout and growth buyout opportunities, alongside growth capital, across the same three themes as Europa 7.
