SWEN Capital Partners is delighted to support Syntetica, a company specializing in Nylon recycling, through its SWEN Blue Ocean strategy, as part of a $30 million fundraising round led by BPIfrance.

Syntetica, a French company founded in 2023, has developed a novel process for recycling complex materials such as nylon. Through selective depolymerization technology, the company is able to recycle nylon while preserving the other fibers present in blended fabrics, such as cotton or polyester. This patented process makes it possible to recycle Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6 together from mixed textile waste streams. This is a technical feat, since identifying and then separating these two types of nylon has until now been one of the main obstacles to recycling post-consumer nylon at scale. The recycled textiles can be reintegrated directly into production circuits, allowing the textile industry to adopt circular materials without disrupting its value chain.

After an initial fundraising round of €4.2 million in 2024, the company announced this July 16th a $30 million Series A, led by Bpifrance’s Écotechnologies fund. This round brings together SWEN Capital Partners, through our SWEN Blue Ocean strategy, the clothing brand Lululemon, EQT Ventures, Lululemon, MAS Holdings, the family office of Peugeot.

The textile industry is today one of the main contributors to plastic pollution: around 8 million tonnes of plastic waste are released into the environment every year, particularly via synthetic fibers such as nylon or elastane, which release macroplastics and microfibers into ecosystems. Thanks to its selective depolymerization method, Syntetica offers a concrete alternative to reduce this impact at the source.

The funds raised will be used to finance the construction of Syntetica’s first commercial demonstration plant, in France. Located in partnership with Michelin’s Sustainable Materials Center in Clermont-Ferrand, this unit is intended to move from the laboratory stage to industrial production capable of processing several hundred tonnes of textile waste per year.

This investment is fully in line with the ambition of our SWEN Blue Ocean fund: to reduce negative impacts on our oceans and support the regeneration of marine biodiversity, a fundamental issue in building a more sustainable future together.
