Cadmium Contamination in Our Soils: Why It Matters to Investors

Soils are the living foundation of our existence: they are home to 80% of the world’s biomass within the first 30 centimeters, regulate water cycles, help prevent flooding, store carbon, and provide the resources needed to feed a growing population.

Yet 70% to 80% of European soils are degraded. This alarming reality has direct consequences for our food systems, the environment, and public health, including increased exposure to certain pollutants such as cadmium.

Last June, France’s Regional Unions of Liberal Doctors (URML) also warned the government about the issue, calling for urgent action to tackle what they described as a major public health threat.

Yet solutions do exist. Studies show that organic and regenerative agriculture practices can reduce cadmium levels in soils and crops by as much as 50%.

To discuss this issue, Jérôme Delmas, Chief Executive Officer of SWEN Capital Partners, joined David Jacquot on Boursorama’s program “Ça vaut le coup !”.

At SWEN Capital Partners, we are taking concrete action :

  • By supporting companies such as Les Alchimistes, which transform organic waste into natural compost.
  • By investing in regenerative agriculture, helping farmers transition towards more sustainable and resilient farming practices.

Investing differently is possible.
Let’s combine purpose, performance, and impact to build a truly sustainable financial system.
