SWEN CP is proud to support SPARXELL, a pioneer in the field of #bioinspired color technologies.
SWEN Capital Partners, through its Blue Ocean 2 fund, is proud to announce its investment in Sparxell, a spin‑off from the University of Cambridge that is reinventing colour through a 100% bio‑based and biodegradable technology. The startup has just raised €4.2 million in a pre‑Series A round led by SWEN CP, alongside Alpha Star Capital and Cambridge Enterprise.
Its patented technology uses cellulose derived from wood pulp, extracting and assembling cellulose crystals into structures that reflect specific wavelengths of light to create “100% plant‑based structural colour” – the same principle that gives butterfly wings their vivid hues – thereby eliminating petroleum‑based chemicals, synthetic dyes, toxic heavy metals and minerals.
This funding will enable Sparxell to move from pilot‑scale to full industrial‑scale production by 2026, supporting brands in their transition towards high‑performance, safe solutions that meet the latest European regulatory requirements.
