2024 back-to-work editorial by Jean Philippe Richaud : a medal for Impact ?
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games highlighted the richness and diversity of our talent.
It’s clear, if proof were needed, that the quality of our athletes was matched only by their total commitment to making these Games a celebration of French sport and know-how.
As is often the case, there will always be things that are a little less successful and lessons to be learned, but this should not overshadow the tremendous popular enthusiasm and laudable ambition to make this the first event to be truly sustainable. With a budget of less than €12 billion, and 95% of the sites used being pre-existing or temporary (source: Official website of the French National Tourism Agency), France’s leadership in the field of sustainability is asserting itself.
The troubled political context following the somewhat unexpected dissolution of the French National Assembly must now be clarified, so that the nation can look forward to a shared future. The political forces that oppose each other on the direction to take would be well advised to draw inspiration from our sportsmen and women and from this wonderful interlude of unity and collective celebration. Without hiding our shortcomings, and without overlooking our successes, the most important of which are the dynamic job market over the past 10 years and the increased attractiveness of our country. And without dogmatically abandoning the idea of placing responsible finance at the heart of the challenges of social, societal and environmental transition.
